How many times have you ever drove someplace, home from work or to your kid’s school, and suddenly realized that you don’t remember how you got there? It happens to all of us. As Ray Kurzweil has pointed out, most recently in his book “how to create a mind,” we are pattern matching machines. We see a pattern, classify it and characterized it, and once we get used to it, we ignore it.
Chance are, if you saw an accident on your way home from work, or were ticketed by the cops, you not only remembered that, but everything else about your trip.
Generally speaking, A pattern interrupt is the difference between what you see, and what you expect to see.
Alex Jones is a pattern interrupt.
By being aggressive, loud and accusatory, Alex did something the other night that no one else has done in the fight for liberty, he shook people out of their trance and made them pay attention.
Nice guy?
Chances are most people, even if they watched Ben Shapiro of Brietbart on Piers Morgan last night, probably can’t recall any of his arguments. Ben is a nice guy. He is a smart guy. He is even made a good presentation. In the end in didn’t matter.
He continually allowed Piers to dominate the mood. He accepted Piers’ (wrong) assumptions (e.g. there were no “assault” weapons at any mass shooting), and he also accepted (wrongly) that Piers was acting in good faith.
I couldn’t help but think how much better Alex Jones would have done in that situation.
What makes Alex so effective against people like Piers is that he comes at them with a righteous anger. Alex KNOWS that these people are lying scum. He KNOWS that they want to ban ALL guns (even though they lie about that), and he KNOWS that everything they say is calculated to mislead and confuse.
These people are not acting in good faith, and they don’t mean well. They are evil and they need to be treated that way.
The time for nice is over. Nice is sitting there whining about Piers Morgan being a bully, and then letting him bully you. Nice doesn’t get the job done.
Since Alex’s appearance on Piers the other night, the internet has been abuzz with some pro-self defense thumbsuckers crying piteously about how “Alex made us look bad.”
This is the same sort of mentality that tells women to always “give in” to their attackers, “after all, you might get hurt!”
What Alex knows is what many school boys learned in grade school: You never give into bullies.
But Alex doesn’t sit there and meekly ask for his enemies to be nice to him. He goes after them furiously and it is something that they are unused to. They are used to nice guys who make good solid logical points and who dress well and who smile a lot…and who aren’t remembered 10 minutes after the show ends.
Alex Jones – Modern Day Martin Luther.
What happened on the Piers Morgan show the other night was akin to Martin Luther tacking his 95 theses to the parish door of All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg Germany.
Like Jones and the internet today, Luther at that time was using a new technology (the printing press) to express pent up outrage at the institutionalized corruption endemic to the power elite of his era.
Similarly, the war of our era against our vile and corrupt power elite, wont be won with nice guys and good arguments. It will be won by passionate fighters who break habitual patterns of thought and who take the fight to the enemy.
